JORDAN HOUSE

This is a wing of Jordan House, an all female residence at St. Joseph's University on Lapsley Lane.  I was drawn to the colors of the building with the blue snow.  It looks like it would be quite snug to be studying in those rooms.

 

PLOW IN THE STORM

Right after the huge snow storm we had last week, I went out to see what was going on and the only thing in sight was one lone snowplow.  It wasn't plowing, probably going home after a long night.  I love the way it lit up the snow as it came up the street.

GENERAL WAYNE INN

The General Wayne Inn, built in 1704, with a rich history of ghosts and a real murder in recent years, sits calmly waiting for whatever life in the 21st century has to offer.

DEN - LATE MORNING

One of the pleasures of the winter months is enjoying the way the sun lights up various parts of the house.  Happy to be inside, especially with all the snow we have been having, I can enjoy the little pleasures of home.

MERION FRIENDS MEETING

One of the most serene and lovely places in Merion and the surrounding area is the Merion Friends Meeting House.  It is located on a very busy street and yet once you walk up the lane you are back to 1695 when it was originally constructed. http://merionfriends.org/

CARRIAGE HOUSE IN THE SUN

Here is another view of the carriage house.  This time from far away in the sun.  The orange glow dances up the house on the left.

BRAVING THE STORM

These are not mushrooms but the plantings in my outdoor pots, the sedum called Autumn Joy.  They are so strong that in spite of the heavy snow they are as perky as ever wearing their hats of snow.

PINES LADEN WITH SNOW

The pines had a hard time with all this snow and many lost limbs.  This one held out in spite of the burden.

Very limited values when it is snowing, but so soft and luscious.

SNOW SHADOWS

It's hard to decide which is more beautiful, the limited palette of the snow without the sun or the lovely shadows created when it is out.

Barnes Foundation after big snow

After the second big snow last week I painted the side of the Barnes when the sun was not out.  Here the limestone really is an interesting contrast with the snow which is purplish grey.

LAPSLEY LANE AFTER FIRST SNOW

After the first snow Lapsley Lane, behind the Barnes Foundation, was quite lovely with one stranded car and a nice walkway plowed by St. Joseph's University.  The dogs could run without a leach and had a wonderful time messing up the perfect snow.  Painting snow without sun is a study in small changes of color in a narrow range of values.

BIG WHITE HOUSE

This painting was done between snows.  It almost looks like spring.  Next week snow, snow and more snow. (Next week is really this week as the paintings have to dry in order to be scanned into the blog)

SHADES OF LACE

I liked all the shades of color the sun created through this lace that I got in Amsterdam many years ago.

BLUE GLASSES

Merion is located on the 2nd stop of the train that goes through the MAIN LINE, the western suburbs of Philadelphia.  These orange doors belong to a restaurant in Ardmore, the 5th stop of this train (the R5).  This scene caught my eye on my way to the art supply store to buy more canvases for this project.  I love the tables all set and ready to go for a festive evening in the middle of the afternoon.
