CARRIAGE HOUSE

There seem to be many more carriage houses than there are stables.  If these places actually held horse drawn carriages, where did they put the horses when they weren't pulling the carriage?  Was there a central stables, where horses were kept for any given neighborhood?  Anybody know?

Our carriage house has two bays. The left one was for the carriage. The right one was the stable. This may not have been the most common design, but I guess that many carriage houses have been altered making the original design difficult to see.

Thanks for your input. Probably that is the case. It would have been pretty impractical to have the horses stabled down the street.

Nancy, wonderful colors in this carriage house painting!

Really nice composition. The use of the shadows for me tells as much of a story as the wonderful handling of color in this...
